Cardiovascular Risk in Acromegaly

چکیده
Abstract Acromegaly is associated with cardiovascular disease, the principal cause of increased mortality. Direct cardiac effects GH/IGF-1 are cardiomyocyte growth and contractility, remoddeling. Other important risk factors in acromegaly hypertension, valvular diseases, arrhytmias. Older patients long-term uncontrolled disease may develop congestive heart failure as end-stage acromegalic cardiomyopathy. Early treatment essential for evolution prognosis complications.

Risk of neoplasms in acromegaly
Acromegaly is a chronic disease caused by the excessive secretion of growth hormone (GH), and as a result, of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). Untreated, the condition reduces the patients' life expectancy and leads to a series of complications, among which an increased risk of carcinogenesis is considered most important. This paper is an analysis of the publications on the issue of the fo...
متن کاملThe role of fibrinogen and CRP in cardiovascular risk in patients with acromegaly.
INTRODUCTION Patients with active acromegaly have 2- to 3-fold increased cardiovascular mortality. Alterations of acute phase proteins, observed in acromegaly, could lead to cardiovascular diseases. Aim of the study was to evaluate fibrinogen and C-reactive protein (CRP) secretion in patients with acromegaly. MATERIAL AND METHODS Seventy-seven patients were divided into groups with active (AA...
متن کاملThe association between biochemical control and cardiovascular risk factors in acromegaly
BACKGROUND The study aim was to estimate the proportion of acromegaly patients with various comorbidities and to determine if biochemical control was associated with reduced proportion of cardiovascular risk factors. METHODS Data were from a single-center acromegaly registry. Study patients were followed for ≥12 months after initial treatment. Study period was from first to last insulin-like ...
متن کاملImpact of successful transsphenoidal surgery on cardiovascular risk factors in acromegaly.
BACKGROUND Cardiac abnormalities develop in patients with acromegaly as a consequence of effects of GH/IGF-I on the heart and related cardiovascular risk factors. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the possible contribution of postoperative variations in blood pressure (BP), glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity to the cardiac improvement reported in patients who have been cured of acromegaly. DESIG...
متن کاملCardiovascular System Changes and Related Risk Factors in Acromegaly Patients: A Case-Control Study
Background. Cardiovascular complications are known to be the main determinants of reduced life expectancy and decreased quality of life in acromegaly patients. Our study aimed to provide insight into the cardiovascular changes that occur in acromegaly patients and to investigate the correlative risk factors. Methods. A total of 108 patients definitively diagnosed with acromegaly and 108 control...
